Reflection 1

A lesson plan is basically a structured plan that a teacher uses for a specific topic to guide them through the school year. The lesson plan is an organized document that the teacher puts together that contains all the instructions, topics, and assignments that will be discussed throughout the school year. The lesson plan allows the instructor as well as the students to be ready for class ahead of time. The lesson plan must also meet certain requirements depending on what school you work for, what grade level you are going to teach, and the state that you teach in. The lesson plan is also very detailed but also leaves room for correction and creativity. Now creating a lesson plan is not easy because as the teacher, you have so many things to keep into consideration. For example, you have to consider the age group and your style of delivery. You also have to consider time in terms of class length and topic length. The lesson plan is there to help the teacher teach an organized lesson and keep him/her on track with the lesson that is going to be taught. If the teacher is unorganized then the students will definitely reflect it. The lesson plan allows the instructor to be creative with the delivery of the lesson to the students. After teaching for almost two years and being a student almost all my life, I’ve come to realize that students love to learn in new ways. The traditional reading the chapter and taking a test is not the best method. Kids like to have fun and the lesson plan allows you to bring that fun, friendly environment into the classroom regardless of the age. The lesson plan should have certain objectives as well as goals. The lesson plan is here to help the instructor teach the lesson effectively and he/she will know that they have been effective if they accomplished their goals or have seen their students accomplish the goals that they had set for their students. As a teacher, your lesson plan should cause you to ask yourself certain questions, which are considered to be your objectives. For instance, will the worksheet enable the students to learn how to work in a group effectively? These type of questions stimulate the teacher to double check the lesson plan and gives them the opportunity to enhance it. The lesson plan gives the instructor the chance to imagine exactly how the class is going to be and the lesson plan helps the teacher flow a lot more because they know in what direction they want to take the class. The lesson plan gives the teacher the feeling of control.
